I'm Mad As Hell, And I'm Not Going To Take This Anymore

A notice, please, to all my Republican friends. And, as well, to my fair-minded liberal friends, those who hope to compromise with Republicans.

The Republican Party is fuckin' evil. Their masters? Evil. Your president? Evil.

You have a problem with that? Feel like defending them? Well, guess what? You, too, are fuckin' evil.

Let me explain.

It's not merely that the president lied us into a war. Nor merely that they help their friends profit from it. Nor even that they, among many other things, authorized torture, defied international law, overextended our military, destroyed our budget, undermined the Democratic process, savaged our Constitution, screwed up our environment, encouraged a particularly narrow and twisted variant of Christianity as "mainstream values", want to propagandize the public airwaves, and can't be bothered to tell the truth about the fucking weather.

Let's hear what the President's chief advisor, Karl Rove, has to say:

"Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers," Mr. Rove, the senior political adviser to President Bush, said at a fund-raiser in Midtown for the Conservative Party of New York State.

Citing calls by progressive groups to respond carefully to the attacks, Mr. Rove said to the applause of several hundred audience members, "I don't know about you, but moderation and restraint is not what I felt when I watched the twin towers crumble to the ground, a side of the Pentagon destroyed, and almost 3,000 of our fellow citizens perish in flames and rubble."

Told of Mr. Rove's remarks, Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, replied: "In New York, where everyone unified after 9/11, the last thing we need is somebody who seeks to divide us for political purposes."

Mr. Rove also said American armed forces overseas were in more jeopardy as a result of remarks last week by Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, who compared American mistreatment of detainees to the acts of "Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others."

"Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year?" Mr. Rove asked. "Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals."

FUCK YOU, Rove.

Let me put it in more elaborate terms, but FUCK YOU. You want a revealing moment? This, more than anything, reveals you as a partisan scumball who cares for nothing except winning.

You know what you're supposed to be doing, shithead? Advising the President on how best to serve the American people. To take care of the nation's business.

I'm still royally pissed off about Durbin's apology. Because Durbin was right. The tactics being used in Guantanamo Bay are the tactics of fascist regimes. And, if not authorized by our leaders, they are certainly enabled, and aren't we supposed to be the fucking Good Guys?

After 9/11, the world came together. Not merely Republicans, not even just Americans. The entire damn world said, "This is wrong, and those who instigated it will pay." The only ones who didn't were [a] the ones who instigated it and [b] Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.

No, what liberals did was also say, "Y'know, these motherfuckers think they have valid reasons for doing this. So, while we're stomping a mudhole in the specific guys who planned and financed the 9/11 attacks, let's try to find out what their grievances are, so that maybe they won't, y'know, keep doing shit like this."

Which, I guess, sounds like coddling, rather than Detective 101: Motive, motive, motive.

No, Rove, you unspeakable monster, you soulless prick, the "motives of liberals" in opposing you are numerous and specific.
  • You have used 9/11 as an excuse to attack a country, Iraq, which had nothing to do with the attacks.
  • You have beggared the country's coffers, both to fight your war and to give financial rewards to your friends, cronies, and political backers.
  • You have got our military stuck in that country, with no way to get out apart from simply cutting and running (which most of us liberals are not in favor of, because, unlike our President, we believe in cleaning up our messes).
  • You have lied continually about your actions, your tactics, your strategies (or lack thereof), your ways, your means, everything related to that war.
  • You have twisted the words of those who question or challenge you, accusing them at best of lying and at worst of treason.
  • You have shamed our country. Once considered the shining light of the world, now we are, by our own definition, a rogue nation.
And you have the fucking unmitigated gall to impugn the motives of the people who tried to stop you from dragging our country through the mud!?

I have a vision of your future, Karl. A very straightforward one. When this whole horrid mess collapses, you are gonna be Defendent #3 at the Hague, right after Bush and Cheney.

And any of you Republicans out there who support this man, who support this President, who support or condone or explain away these policies, who call Democrats traitors for daring to question Dear Leader... you had better deal with a simple fact.

You are fuckin' evil.

Comments:
Honestly, I couldn't have said it any better myself. Thanks.

You forgot election fraud.

Don't follow the link on my previous comment... this on is right.

You forgot election fraud.

No, I didn't. :) The link for "undermined the Democratic process", in the introductory part, goes to the Wikipedia page for "Diebold". And, honestly, cataloguing the crimes of this administration would take days -- not because of difficulty, but sheer volume. My hope is that the job will be enthusiastically taken up by historians, prosecutors, and The Hague.

Personally, I think Durbin showed signs of torture during his apology.

Now that I've successfully repressed the urge to lash out at uninvolved bystanders...what the fuck do we do about it all?

Reason doesn't work. Voting doesn't work. Argument doesn't work. Speaking out--they all either yawn, or jeer, and soon they'll start physically assaulting us for not being on the bandwagon.

I've already done everything I can think of doing, and they still march on, chanting "four legs good".

You know what you're supposed to be doing, shithead? Advising the President on how best to serve the American people. To take care of the nation's business.

I actually disagree with this part. Rove is Bush's political advisor, until recently with no official government position. His job, no matter how much we might disagree with it, is to advise Shrub on political issues.

You are technically correct, Steven. However, I respectfully disagree with your disagreement, because part of that job is to help decide when politics takes a back seat to the People's business. With this crew, it never does. Which is a fault of the position, or my wild mad idealistic notion of how the country should work, or something.

I like my solution best, but it may not work for everyone.

I fell in love and moved to England.

It certainly is hard to see how anyone could support Bush's actions without making an unfortunate moral choice, yes. I would guess that a lot of Republicans only support him because he is the only President they've got right now, but I might be wrong.

But be careful what you wish for. They have proved, these last two years, that they can manipulate the system so as to get power for themselves, every single time. The only way to get them out is going to be a dismantling of the system and a rebuilding from scratch. And that is going to hurt, any way you try it. I don't mean to be alarmist, but any attempt to unseat this President by means other than the normal (of which he demonstrably has control) will have two possible results. You could lose, which would be unfortunate. Or you could win, which might be worse.

Are you (all who agree with the writer, and I'm not saying I don't) angry enough to take responsibility for nationwide social and economic collapse? Widespread anarchy? Civil war? Are "they" evil enough that you would fight "them" and kill "them"? Their wives? Their children? Is the situation bad enough that complete chaos, grinding hardship, and local bullies taking control of neighbourhoods by force of arms would be better?

The British way is to sigh, roll your eyes and put up with it, because it isn't anyone's fault, it's just Thuh System. I think that's a cop-out, but I really don't know whether the other way is better...

To bring about "nationwide social and economic collapse? Widespread anarchy? Civil war?" does not require the violent overthrow of the current regime; all it requires is to sit back and let it continue its current policies unchallenged. Make no mistake, America is swirling around the drain of a complete economic collapse that will make the Great Depression look like a pleasant family vacation, and the Bush Administration is actively working to make it happen sooner rather than later. They actively seek to make the Federal government go bankrupt, lacking the imagination to see what would follow. The reason to prefer legitimate political means of effecting change is, really, that they have more of a chance of succeeding. Imbuing the electorate with a clue may be a faint hope, but it's imaginable; a revolution will only be possible after the government has already collapsed.

I don't actually want to start my own blog on this site, so apparently I must remain anonymous.

On KPFK earlier this week (L.A.'s radio Pacifica station.... so the actual liberal bastion on the radio as opposed to NPR. Pacifica even occasionally makes me go 'ok, now, I have to call you liberal loonies' and I've been known to spend a lot of time arguing that marxism didn't get a fair chance because people kept trying to skip steps,) there was an interview with people currently performing in a production of Judgement at Nuremberg.

And what they talked about, and what I think is true, is that you can't compromise on civil rights or election fraud or the treatment of prisoners or anything that speaks to our essential humanity. If you do, you are condoning/enabling/conspiring with the people who are slowly working their way towards being monsters. Sure, each step seems like a baby step. Each little thing seems like such a small compromise, but small compromises eventually lead to big ones. And eventually you start trying to tell yourself and everyone else that you didn't know what they were doing. You didn't know how bad it would be or how bad it was. But in the end, the only answer of the world will be 'you should have known, and you should have stopped it'. And arguably this is a slippery slope falacy... except that it's happened again and again and again. Sometime we have to learn.

I'm not a republican, in fact in the last election I threw my vote away on a third party candidate, but I support him and his peeps in this time of war. I support what he is doing to help stabilize that hell hole of a country, iraq, so that any future attacks on democracy will happen on someone else's soil. I support him in his goal to help the iraqi people set up their democracy in a proper manner, and in helping to make it easier on the women over there. Many great things are happening for the iraqi people and unfortunately many good men and women are giving their lives to see that they do. I only hope that the hate and ignorance I see here is only the product of a biased leftest media.

Skeetor, I can only presume from your remarks that you're the "I'm not Republican, but..." flavor of troll. I just looked at your blog, with a commenter referencing this post (which is how I presume you got here), and saw your response.

Man, if you can't figure out that our nation now officially condones torture, that Durbin was demonized for saying Why are Americans acting like this?, and that lying our nation into an illegal war we now cannot get out of is way the fuck worse than protesting the fact that we can't get out of it, then you and I have nothing to discuss.
