I Didn't Say I Was Gonna Make You Black, I Said I Was Gonna Get You On The Train

A little hip-hop for Lieberman:

Joementum
Words & Music Copyright 2006 by Tom Smith

Well, I'm the only Senator from Connecticut
Got his nose firmly planted up Dubya's butt
I hate violent video games much more
Than the real thing in the Iraqi war.

I say I'm Democrat, but I'm so far right
That my constituents call me Republican Lite
That makes my blood boil, gets me uptight,
But I don't let it bug me 'cause I'm rich and white.

And I'm not gonna let 'em get away with it
(Not gonna let 'em get away with it)
I'm not gonna let 'em, I got the Joementum
I'm not gonna let 'em get away with it
(Not gonna let 'em get away with it)
I'm not gonna let 'em, I got the Joementum

I was Al Gore's VP candidate,
No one's sure what he thought I brought to the plate,
He was trying to make amends with the far right trash,
So he claimed to be friends with the gentried cash.

Got a big ol' mansion, with a servant staff,
Do I support immigration? Don't make me laugh,
Make the aliens run through hoops and worse,
Become citizens after we exploit 'em first.

Got a whole lot of friends in the military,
Got a whole lot invested in industry,
I support our troops in Iraq, you see,
'Cause my views are better than reality.

So I'm Biden my time for 2008,
When I'm gonna be a presidential candidate.
It's gonna be great, and I just can't wait
Prove I'm the front-runner and ignore the hate

Of the people who voted for me thinkin' I
was a more-or-less liberal kinda guy,
Thought I'd vote against religion infringing rights,
Thought I'd vote against tax cuts for rich whites.

Thought I'd vote against ripping up the Bill of Rights,
Thought I'd actually come to fight their fights.
And now they've got the gall to call me "Republican Lite"
-- I'm "Republican HEAVY", and that's all right!

And I'm not gonna let 'em get away with it
(Not gonna let 'em get away with it)
I'm not gonna let 'em, I got the Joementum
I'm not gonna let 'em get away with it
(Not gonna let 'em get away with it)
I'm not gonna let 'em, I got the Joementum....

There's Got To Be One Set Of Fair Laws For Everyone, Including You

I got this from my friend Mark, who got it from the LiveJournal of "supergee", who got it from the LJ of "anne_jumps".

Remember South Dakota State Senator Bill Napoli? Well, he's made a new friend -- not:
When Governor Mike Rounds signed HB 1215 into law it effectively banned all abortions in the state with the exception that it did allow saving the mother’s life. There were, however, no exceptions for victims of rape or incest. His actions, and the comments of State Senators like Bill Napoli of Rapid City, SD, set of a maelstrom of protests within the state.

Napoli suggested that if it was a case of “simple rape,” there should be no thoughts of ending a pregnancy. Letters by the hundreds appeared in local newspapers, mostly written by women, challenging Napoli’s description of rape as “simple.” He has yet to explain satisfactorily what he meant by “simple rape.”

The President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, was incensed. A former nurse and healthcare giver she was very angry that a state body made up mostly of white males, would make such a stupid law against women.

“To me, it is now a question of sovereignty,” she said to me last week. “I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”

Strong words from a very strong lady. I hope Ms. Fire Thunder challenges Gov. Rounds and the state legislators on this law that is an affront to all independent women.
(article by Tim Giago of The Native American Times.)

Another LJ person, kathrynt, called the Office of the President and spoke with Ms. Fire Thunder herself. And got contact and donation info:
If you want to mail donations to the reservation, you may do so at:

Oglala Sioux Tribe
ATTN: President Fire Thunder
P. O. Box 2070
Pine Ridge, SD 57770

Enclose a letter voicing your support and explaining the purpose of the donation. Bear in mind, the Pine Ridge Res is not exactly dripping with disposeable income, so do consider donating funds directly to the tribe as well as specifically for this effort.

For email contact, you can contact the president at:

firethunder_president@yahoo.com
cc:vbush@oglala.org

That is Ms. Fire Thunder's personal email address; I have received permission to post it here. For the sake of record keeping, do cc: the listed address on all correspondence; that's her official secretary.

There Are Children Here Somewhere -- I Can Smell Them

Once again, an aging white man calls dibs on women's wombs:
U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, who often takes a conservative line on social issues, is facing a liberal Democratic primary challenge from wealthy Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont. But that hasn't stopped Lieberman from supporting the approach of the Catholic hospitals when it comes to contraceptives for rape victims.

Lieberman said he believes hospitals that refuse to give contraceptives to rape victims for "principled reasons" shouldn't be forced to do so. "In Connecticut, it shouldn't take more than a short ride to get to another hospital," he said.
How fucking sick do you have to be, first off, to tell a woman who was just raped that she isn't as important as her rapist's potential unborn child?

How stupid and insensitive do you have to be, secondly, to say that, if she doesn't want to carry the rapist's potential unborn child, she should go down the street to the next hospital?

And how deeply in denial do you have to be, thirdly, to say these things and call yourself a Democrat? An American? A human being?

Joe must go.

New Song: "Censure Him Gone"

I might actually try to record this over the next day or so.

CENSURE HIM GONE
(to the tune of "Since You've Been Gone" by Weird Al Yankovic)

Censure him gone
Well, people told me my hat was made of tinfoil
Censure him gone
It turned out Dubya lied us into a war for oil
Oh well, I'm feelin' like he took a chainsaw
To the US Con-sti-tu-ti-on,
You know, I want to give this butthead a brain,
Censure him gone

(Censure him gone)
I couldn't feel any worse if he spied
On our citizens illegally
(Censure him gone)
Till I remembered our kids who have died
For Iraqi democracy

Censure him gone
Well, it feels like someone else is indicted every day
Censure him gone
And this scandal you've got with Jack Abramoff just won't go away
Ever since that day you were sworn in
I've been so miserable, old son --
You know, it almost makes me wish
Ralph Nader had won.

I Have Come Here To Chew Bubblegum And Kick Ass -- And I'm All Out Of Bubblegum

Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) said this morning that he will introduce a resolution to censure the President for breaking the law with his warrantless eavesdropping program. Crooks & Liars has the video, Raw Story has the transcript, Glenn Greenwald has the analysis.

So, let's assume that at least some Senators are going to vote against this. What should be We The People's next step in that case? And, by all means, my Republican friends, c'mon down. In fact, I've got a bonus question just for you, and I ask it in all seriousness, and ask the progressive/liberal/Dems 'round here to let them have their say: Why shouldn't the Senate censure President Bush?
